Citibank changing rates on Signature/Prestige

By brinkers | Apr 04, 2017, 10:37 AM
Citibank have updated the terms and conditions of the rewards programs on the Signature and Prestige Cards. The changes that take effect from Mid June, will affect the earn and burn rates on the cards.

Generally, points earn will be moving to a tiered rate based on merchant category, The base earn rate will decrease
The definition of excluded government spend has been expanded. It will include things like parking fees, public transport fares
Transfer rates to a range of airline/hotel loyalty programs are being adjusted (in a bad way)

anz are also doing this

I have heard nothing from Westpac as yet

it may be that an amex card from amex themselves will be the best for FF points as I understand they will avoid the interchange issues

Well my monthly spend will now see me earn about 55% less KrisFlyer points from June 15 on Prestige.

Will be definitely dropping in favour of something a little more enticing.

The new conditions say for Signature you get 1.5 points per $1 spend on......major national retailers. What is a major national retailer?  I tried to call Citibank but the agent had no idea, she said it was a major national retailer that sells merchandise.  I said is it like department stores or like a Nike store?  She said yes to both - unconvincingly.  They don't have a list of national retailers, but 'they're looking to get get one'.  She also said these stores are international stores (which to mean doesn't include Myer), but then she said it includes Myer.  I'm so confused.
