China 'Transit without Visa' Shanghai

By JA | May 16, 2019, 03:52 AM
I'm staying the night in Nantong, Jiangsu (just outside of Shanghai). Does anyone know if I land at Shanghai Pudong whether Nantong is included in the region that i'm able to travel visa-free in? Also, to clarify: as long as I arrive from Australia, but depart from China to a 'third country' like Hong Kong, that fulfils the requirements for visa-free 'transit' in China? Thanks for the assistance/advice!

The Shanghai 144 hour TWOV covers the Jiangsu province, where Nantong is located.

Leaving for Hong Kong afterwards fulfills the transit conditions, so overall, you should be fine.

Disclaimer: You should verify that information independently on Shanghai's Immigration website.

Shanghai region only also has an online pre-application for the 144-hour visa.

Not widely publicised and most of the few links on the web now go to a dead url on a police website.

Current link is:

Should be, because you're arriving from Hong Kong, and going to Australia
