Best routes travelling Melbourne to Cairo and Amman?

By MR1961 | Jul 11, 2018, 05:47 PM
My husband and I plan a tour to Egypt and Jordan next February. We are flexible with time and routes, happy to do stopovers, and wondering what others have experienced and enjoyed as routes, and recommend to do - or avoid ? We intend to travel J, or F if available. All suggestions welcome, with thanks.

Every one will have their preferred Middle East airline. I would recommend Qatar F via Doh. You can then connect with Royal Jordanian giving you a one world ticket benefits if a Qf member.
Royal Jordanian have had good reviews and superior to Egyptair.

Best advice for you caus I am doing this next April for Egypt, use points to get there - Emirates or Qatar to Jordan first, then if you search flights back from Cairo to Aus one way on Emirates/QF then J class is approx $2k and first class is a very reasonable $4k. Very good value.

Shows how much inflated business and first class is if flights depart from Australia - $6k to Dubai alone in J class and over $10k in F.

I am travelling to CAI from MEL myself in December, and found great fares by booking two separate tickets, with much cheaper business class to be had ex SE Asia. Business class from KUL to CAI and returning to BKK with RJ for $1,500. Good connections through to Melbourne too, although separate tickets faffing may not be for everyone, but i personally think its worth it.

If you are a QF Frequent Flyer, book with Qantas, which codeshares with Emirates to both AMM and CAI. You get credits and points with Qantas.

When I moved to London, I took the following route
HKG-AMM via BKK with RJ

So if you can get to BKK or HKG from MEL, have a stopover and join the RJ flight and earn QF points. RJ also fly AMM-CAI

Jordan is a wonderful country, spent 9 days on tour there!

Being a Qantas frequent flyer is very advantageous for Middle Eastern travel as you can earn and redeem points on Emirates, Qatar & Royal Jordanian. All are good options, unless you specifically want to stop over in Asia on the way.

Emirates or Qatar via their respective hubs are great, a day or two in Qatar is an interesting enough stopover. Bit more to do in & around Dubai though.

Searching for flights in Feb next year, if you are paying for your tickets, then Oman Air seems to be cheapest at less than $4200 return, but is a 2 stop flight. Fly MEL-Kuala Lumpur on Malaysia airlines, then Kuala Lumpur to Muscat to Amman on Oman Air. Oman Air's product on board is as every bit as good as Emirates or Qatar, and if you can work in a stopover in Muscat, it's a lovely place to visit. In previous years I have flown Air Asia to Kuala Lumpur (they have cheap lie flats in business class, but nothing fancy), had a few days, then hopped on the Oman Air flight. Was a good option for me at the time.
