Flight options from Adelaide to Tokyo

By Tancho | Jul 17, 2017, 12:24 PM
I am planning a leisure trip to Tokyo and because of FF I'm down to 2 options: QF via Brisbane on a A330-300 or SQ via Singapore on a 777-300ER. J class.
I've been on the SQ config a few times, but I haven't flown QF internationally in years. I save on travel time with QF by quite a few hours, but some of the SQ options in regards to arrival and departure times are a bit better for me and I can always transit a bit longer in Singapore. Looks like both are lie flat options with direct aisle access, which is the better product?
Any thoughts or suggestions? I'd prefer not to transit through Sydney, although Melbourne is okay.
Cheers

JAL are beginning MEL-NRT in September, and they rock OneWorld alliance,

Would that work?

Hi ADL-SIN is on A330-300. SIN-NRT is usually 777-300ER. The only problem is the 9 hour wait in SIN if departing ADL. Business on the A330-300 is average. Its OK for daytime flight ,but the return to ADL is terrible as the seats narrow and not lie flat.I have given up on the SQ278/279 and now fly to MEL with VA, an get SQ228 (777-300er)to SIN. It saves 2 and a bit hours on the total trip time. Business on the A330-300 is 2-2-2 wheras on the 777-300er its 1-2-1.

Just a p.s. It costs the same to go ADL-MEl-SIN- NRT as it does to go ADL-SIN-NRT (or HND). if going on SIA as there is a special fare for J. Doesnt apply to F

Thanks plad! Yes aware of SQ278/279, I've been on that flight quite a few times (and complained about it a few times too!), but the SIN-NRT sector is lie flat at least. It is the reason I am looking at Qantas now after years of loyalty to SQ.
Thanks for the JAL tip MRYJDrake, I'll have a look. I looked at ANA but their prices were higher than SQ and QF because of these special fares on right now.

The new QF J class and seat are up there with the best. BNE is a breeze to transfer through  even with a landside transfer connection only.
I did SYD - BNE (Domestic) - NRT late last year and it was great. The new BNE QF lounge is worth it also.

Tancho, have you looked at Cathay Pacific?  Good consistent J product and the connection in Hong Kong is very efficient.  Haven't checked on the timing, which is the limitation with few services to ADL.

Hello!

Here are some of my suggestions.

I would go with:

1. Qantas
Reason: the A330 product is excellent, and the new lounge at Brisbane is amazing. Transfers a relatively easy with a bus connecting the two terminals as well as a train.

2. Qantas/JAL
Reason: Melbourne is easy to transfer at and I think you will find JAL to be truly amazing.

Singapore Air has a very long layover, so I would not consider them as much.

Have a great trip, and all the options here are great options so no need to worry you won't have a great flight there!

Thanks for the suggestions! I have decided to go with QF. Good value with the Business sale fares.

With Classic rewards one way and some points and pay on the return, total out of pocket came up to just over $1400. Happy with that!
Flying through Melbourne on the way there and Brissy on the way back.
Read the review/comments on the Melbourne international lounge. Pity but oh well I'm not going to complain!
