Best Lie Flat Business Class seat

By highflyer | Nov 06, 2018, 06:37 PM
Recently flew on the CX Business class A330 to Aus, and first time on their new A350 from MEL-HK. Even though the seats were very similar, the newer generation A350 seat felt like the ergonomics were much better, and even "lay flat" better in the sleep mode and felt more spacious. I often find the "flat" mode sometimes to be very uneven around the waist area, i often have to have a small incline to reduce this. Does anyone else find this, and what is your favourite Flat Business Class seat in "Sleep" mode?

I'll vote for the worst lie flat bed. Qantas skybed. Advertised as lie flat but are closer to angle flat.
They are so old they sag so much they almost touch the floor. However the part that sags is the legs-the thorax is still flat, so you end up with sore thighs after. Coupled to the 2-2-2 configuration and virtually no storage I struggle to decide if Emirates 777 business angle flat is worse, or this. Thank goodness they have planned to update them but it's more than a year away

I like CX. THe foot cubby hole isn't too small. On SQ's new business class, this is tiny. QFs 787, was great also. I'd happily fly CX and new QF business products for the rest of my life.

Despite the criticisms of the QF Skybed 2, I actually prefer them to their newer Business Suites if flying a window seat on the A380 which has the side storage areas. The older Skybeds provide more vertical area for moving my legs. After having done a 15 hour flight with the A380 Skybed and a 4 hour flight on the 787 Business Suite, I felt more relaxed after the longer flight with less aches compared to the more restricted Business Suite.

I just flew from Singapore in the 380 window seat with massive storage and a much better seat in the 2 2 2 config than the 350 from Helsinki with its tiny boxes.

I also consider CX A350 has very nice business seat. However CX never allocate A350 to their trump SYD flights.

BA is also nice too (but not the B747 seriously). The old A380 SQ seat/ bed is weird in my mind. AA is similar to CX old B777 ones but the cushion is harder. JL Dreamliner is not very soft too but comfy (and I took day flights). Old Etihad A330 bed is not wide and cushion is hard.

My vote is with the CX business seats. Still the best out there.

The seat design Air India uses on their 787s and that Turkish also uses on their 2-3-2 777s. Have seen it on a few other airlines as well.

The seat is sparse, poorly equipped, no gadgets and is usually in relatively high density configurations, but damn if it isn't wide, long and extremely comfortable to sleep on. On Turkish especially where the service and food is excellent, I get super comfy. After a 3 hour flight between GRU and EZE I was the comfiest I've ever been on a plane and had to be dragged off kicking and screaming.

Given the US airline bashing in these comments fields I'll probably get laughed out of the park, but the new United Polaris seat is one of the best I've flown. From a sleeping perspective it's awesome, fantastic bedding. There is one Asian carrier that regularly features top 5 or 6 in Skytrax rankings and I just don't understand it. In my view the UA Polaris and QF newer seats are far superior. I really question the integrity of those rankings sites.

Best Business seat for daytime: Eva Air
Best Business seat for nighttime: Air New Zealand / Virgin Atlantic
Worst seat: Qantas Skybed 1 and 2
Worst product: Singapore Airlines (really no amenity case?)

Qatar A380 was excellent plenty of room for your feet, nice comfy pj’s, a mattress overlay, and a doona.
Boarded in Perth, ate lightly and woke up in Dubai.....no complaints. Same on the return journey too.

Qatar Arways definitely the best by far. Even a door!

Supertech, I find it highly unlikely you landed in Dubai on a QR flight! They're banned in the UAE right now. I'm guessing you meant you landed in Doha

Recently completed a 13 sector RTW in J on 5 Airlines. All window seats.

My list of preference:

1. QF62 A330 NRT-BNE Comfy, storage, privacy, service, food (Couldn't fault)

2. AA81 B777 LHR-DFW Comfy, storage, privacy, food, service (Absolutely shocked given is a US Airline)

3. JL61 B777 LAX-NRT Privacy, comfy, service (Old fitout, Very little storage, Super private)

4. QR817 B777 HGK-DOH Service, Food (Old fitout, Not so comfy seat)

5. QF97 A330 BNE-HGK Comfy, storage, privacy, food. (Meal service was appallingly slow and disjointed)

Other sectors were:

QR A330 Service good, Food OK, Seat Terrible & not really Lie Flat - angle.

BA B747 (Lie Flat), Nothing good to say about BA hard or soft product on any flight.

BA A320, BA A321, Recliners

AA RJ900, AA E175, Typical US Domestic Recliners

2xQF 737 AU domestic, service great, typical recliners, food OK.
