Best Australian credit card for Star Alliance flyer?

By phileas.fogg | Feb 12, 2018, 12:05 AM
Hi there. Long time listener, first time caller. I recently received my Australian PR, which opens up a vast number of new Australian credit card possibilities -- 457 visa holders are limited to very few cards. I'm currently examining my options.

I fly just over 125,000 miles a year, mostly in revenue discount economy (100k on *A internationally, 25k on Qantas domestically). which qualifies me for 1K on United without very much spend — overseas addresses are exempt from the minimum spends for all tiers on United. That 1K gets me 6 GPUs, upgrade instruments each good for a full Sydney to New York route, each year. I use these to upgrade my four trans-Pacific flights/year in coach, saving around AUD 10,000 per trip. With Qantas, of course, you have to spend much more money before you begin to access perks like that in practice.

With that in mind, what's the best Australian credit card for dumping points earned on it into my United MileagePlus account? Or failing that, into the account of another *A program that I can then use for awards/upgrades on United flights?

Most Australian CC won't earn UA directly. The easiest *A currency to earn from CC is via Krisflyer with SQ or Thai Royal Orchid with TG via Amex.

There is a way to earn UA at decent rate. If there is a way I can pm you I'll let you know.

Any reason why you may not explain this publicly?

Because I hope people after hearing this method (which is fully legit and no risk), as a token of appreciation will use my referral link. (Of course obligation free). But I'm not allowed to post my referral link here.

But I can say that you will earn more than 1 UA per dollar spend (AUD) on everyday purchases. Up to more than 1.5 UA per dollar.
