BridgeAlliance axes unlimited AsiaRoam Data SIM

IN BRIEF | Australian travellers to Asia will lose one of their options for unlimited data roaming on December 31 when the Bridge Alliance group shutters its AsiaRoam Data SIM programme.

However, citing a "change of business focus", the Bridge Alliance says that "Bridge AsiaRoamData SIM and its related services will be terminated and will no longer be available with effect from 1 January 2013."

The effective shut-down date is actually one month prior, with December 31, 2012 listed as the last day to use your Bridge AsiaRoamData SIM.

What are your options?

Our recommendations for some of the best pre-paid data deals in Asia includes Three for Hong Kong and StarHub in Singapore – we'd welcome suggestions from readers as to the best options for other Asian countries.

Optus customers should also check out the carrier's Bridge DataRoam packs, which are an add-on service for existing Optus mobile accounts.

These offer three days of unlimited data for $27, or five days for $40, through partner networks in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, The Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

Users don't need to swap their SIM card, so they retain their Aussie mobile number for use while travelling.
