Air New Zealand opens new Koru Lounge at Christchurch

Air New Zealand has cut the ribbon to its new domestic Koru Lounge at Christchurch International Airport.

The lounge is considerably larger than its predecessor, with around twice as many seats – many of which are arranged in tiers so that travellers can enjoy expansive views of the runway and Southern Alps through floor to ceiling windows.

It's all the handiwork of New Zealand furniture designer Simon James, and follows in the refreshed footsteps of Air NZ's flagship domestic Koru Lounge at Auckland Airport.

The Kiwi flag-carrier is also showcasing its green cred with the inclusion of low-energy LED lighting, sustainably manufactured floor and wall tiles, recyclable carpet and water-efficient plumbing fixtures.

There's even a unique set of sculptured ceiling tiles, which the airline says is made largely from recycled plastic bottles "and inspired by the snow-capped Southern Alps".

Air New Zealand's Manager Global Lounges & Valet, Verity Jade, says the new look lounges provide "a more consistent domestic customer journey" and have also been designed to meet the different needs  of travellers.

"As part of the design process, we have created distinct zones to suit the range of customers we serve" Jade says.

"Whether someone wants to kick back and relax or plug in and get some work done, the new lounge layout offers more choice and a solution to suit the situation."
