Virgin Australia: 15% bonus on Velocity frequent flyer points

By David Flynn     Filed under: Virgin Australia, Velocity Frequent Flyer

October is the month to make the most of your Velocity frequent flyer points, with Virgin Australia offering a pair of 15% bonus promotions beginning from today.

The first deal gives you 15% extra Velocity points when transferring credit card points to Virgin Australia's Velocity program.

All of Virgin's banking partners – including American Express, Westpac, ANZ and the Commonwealth Bank – will be taking part in the promotion.

There's also a 15% reduction in the number of Velocity points needed to claim a free seat on any Virgin Australia flight (although the deal doesn't extend to partner airlines such as Air New Zealand, Etihad and Singapore Airlines).

For example, Sydney-Perth and Sydney-Auckland flights drop from 16,900 Velocity points to 14,365 points (plus $27 in taxes), while Sydney-Los Angeles comes in at 39,950 points (plus $131 in taxes) instead of the standard 47,000 points.

Both promotions run from October 1st to 31st – for details, click through to velocityrewards.com.au.

Is Citibank included in this promo?

Yes, as the line "All of Virgin's banking partners – including American Express, Westpac, ANZ and the Commonwealth Bank – will be taking part in the promotion" would indicate...

Hi David what about Virgins own card the Platinum High Flyer?

looking at direct earn cards, they hardly ever throw bonus earn points...

My last experience with Virgin Flyer card was a bonus 3500 points for spending of $500 within 3 months....

ever since then, i'd rather stick with cards that earn their own reward points then do the transfer to Velocity during these bonus points transfer... which from historical, they do this bonus transfer twice a year... Mar/April and Sept/Oct period...

about time... been waiting for this promo so i can transfer all my CBA Award points and then cancel it...

not worth having that card anymore since they change the earn rates...

It's interesting to note that this promotion is not up on the Virgin/Velocity website yet and its due to start in 4 days??

Thanks David for the article, as I quickly hopped online to transfer my AMEX points. I always take advantage of these "bonus" periods, which happen at least a couple of times a year. 15% point on 100K of points nothing to be sniffed at!
