Travel tech: free Qantas Frequent Flyer points calculator app!

Here's an app that any Australian frequent flyer won't want to miss: the unofficial Qantas Frequent Flyer Calculator for iPhone, which usually sells for $2.99, is available free until Thursday September 8th.

This Aussie-made app sports many functions that Qantas left out of its official iPhone app, such as the ability to calculate points and status credit earnings for different routes -- complete with the point bonuses earned for holding gold, silver or platinum status.

This latest  version 1.2 adds the ability for users to access their current Qantas Frequent Flyer points and status credits balance.

If you're interested in tracking how close you are to retaining or upgrading your status privileges, the app lets you know your annual status expiry date, as well as how many status credits you need to maintain or reach the next status level.

The main function of the app is to let you work out the most efficient routes in terms of earning points and status credits, including Qantas and oneworld partner airlines American Airlines and British Airways. It has a database of 1,700 airports.

However, if you'd prefer to fly only on Qantas aircraft, there's a new setting to just search Qantas-only routes.

This version of the app includes all the updated domestic ticket types that Qantas introduced in July.

You can download the app here: iTunes Australia | USA

Developer Adam Ware has compiled a video looking at the new features of version 1.2 of the app:
