Free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership – save $80

By David Flynn     Filed under: qantas, Qantas Frequent Flyer, frequent flyer programs

Want to score free membership to Qantas' Frequent Flyer programme?

Yes, anybody who reads Australian Business Traveller is definitely a frequent flyer, but we're sure you know somebody who has yet to join the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme and start earning points on their flights.

That the program comes with an $82.50 sign-up fee doesn't help, considering that many other airlines make it free to join their program (although you can also get free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership by signing up for a Woolworths Everyday Rewards Card).

So here's the deal: as part of a promotion with the Nine Network's Today breakfast TV show, Qantas is offering free membership to its Qantas Frequent Flyer programmme.

You sign up online at the Qantas-Today promo page and will receive your membership number instantly via email, with a membership card being posted out the next week.

The deal ends on 30 November 2012 but according to the fine print, "is not available to NZ residents" (sorry about that, Kiwis).

And don't forget our guide to making the most of your Qantas Frequent Flyer points with free 'award' flights: it's packed with expert knowledge and some insider tips and tricks along the way.

Good find. Why dont they offer the card free anyway? VA does. $82.50 is a pointless waste of time isnt it?

I think they may make a considerable profit off of that initial 'joining fee' - for most people, I.e. The unfrequent flyer I doubt it is worth it, unless the program is free

Before Christmas I wanted to get my kids signed up for QFF as we had some trips booked.  I joined them up to Woolworths everyday rewards and they got free QFF membership with that, the youngest is only 7.  Bit of overkill I know but still saved me $160 bucks at the time and I got the membership number staight away so could book other flights that day.
