Qantas has re-opened the Qantas Club, Qantas Business Lounge and elite Chairman's Lounge at Melbourne Airport after a fire broke out in the Qantas Club kitchen early this morning.
Reports say the fire began in a refrigerator before spreading throughout the lounge’s kitchen, sending smoke throughout Melbourne Airport's domestic Terminal One.
According to a report in The Sydney Morning Herald, Metropolitan Fire Brigade commander Mark O’Connor said the blaze was contained to an area of about nine square metres "however the Qantas Club’s floor was significantly damaged by water."
Qantas staff issued Melbourne passengers with $30 vouchers redeemable at airport cafes to grab a pre-flight snack, until the lounges opened their doors a little after 4pm.
