Jetstar's Boeing 787 starts Melbourne-Auckland flights

By David Flynn     Filed under: Melbourne, Jetstar, New Zealand, Auckland, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Trans-Tasman

Jetstar's Boeing 787 moves onto the popular trans-Tasman route from today, with a return service between Melbourne and Auckland.

The Dreamliner will run three times a week – on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday – as JQ229 out of Melbourne at 10.15am and JQ214 ex-Auckland at 5.15pm.

However, it's a one-month only deal, with the service finishing up on March 28th before the Dreamliner is rostered onto longer international flights such as the new Brisbane-Bali route from April 16th.

"The Dreamliner is a destination in itself and we're pleased that over the next month thousands of Kiwis will be able to experience this unique long haul aircraft at trans-Tasman prices," said Jetstar's NZ chief Grant Kerr.

You can also experience Jetstar's Boeing 787 business class at economy prices, thanks to a loophole in Jetstar's booking system which Australian Business Traveller revealed earlier this year.

We're the first to admit that Jetstar's business class is more like a premium economy seat – that's par for the course with most low-cost airlines – but by booking an economy ticket and specifying an Extra Legroom Seat for just $30 more you'll find yourself sitting at the pointy end of the plane, in business class.

Our step-by-step guide explains how it's done.
